Soak Up The Sun...

Alyssa floating in the big pool

Alyssa showing off her swim skillsAlyssa,Elise,Mason, and his friend Nate.

Me and Bella enjoying the sun prior to my sunburn
Last week got really hot outside, so it was the perfect opportunity to get in the water and play and soak up some sun raise before our big trip to Myrtle Beach, SC this week.
We went to the splash park again last week with friends and then later in the week we went over to my friend Korin's to swim in their pool. She has a daughter, Elise, who is just 3 weeks younger than Alyssa and they get along really well.
The girls were just splashing around in the kiddie pool to start out and I was getting Bella all lathered up in sunscreen and talking with Korin poolside. All of the sudden we see Alyssa go under and she starts to struggle to get back up. (the kiddie pool is real shallow around the outside and gets deeper right in the middle) I have Bella in my hands still and Korin and I bolt into the kiddie pool with our clothes still on and Korin pulls Alyssa up and she's looking at us like, "Um...I forgot I can't swim on my own yet." I'm like, "Um...you think?" She was fine and wanted to go back in. So we put some arm floats on her and she took off to the big pool. It didn't phase her a bit and thank goodness because her swim lessons start this week.
I was so busy reapplying sunscreen to the kiddos and making sure they weren't drowning and taking care of Bella that I didn't put enough sunscreen on myself. I didn't put any on my neck and shoulder area. Needless to say, 3 hours later in the Oklahoma summer sun, I was a true "redneck." I apoligize in advance to my little sister, Olivia. She is a master estititionist and is very against damaging your skin by UV light. I promise to apply sunscreen next time. If it makes you feel any better, I am in a lot of pain. My bra straps feel like they are digging a hole through my skin. OUCH! Rob has the oh so fun job of applying alovera to my burn. This morning before church he was rubbing it in and Alyssa walked in because I was wimpering and saying, "Rob, gentle. It feels like you are rubbing sand paper on my skin." Alyssa looked at my burn and said, "Oh, momma, you got a burn? No, daddy, don't hurt her, don't hurt her." It was a nice comic relief to a painful situation.
I will be really busy the next couple of days doing laundry, packing, getting the car serviced and getting ready for the big trip to South Carolina, so I won't be posting until after we get back from our trip. We will be back on July 8th. I will post some pictures of our trip. I will see you then!

Ouchy! Sorry about that burn. Reading your story abuot Alyssa nearly drowning herself in the kiddie pool reminded me of a time in Irvine. We had just gotten to the community pool and I was busy getting Griff all lathered up when lo and behold, there is Logan in the big pool. I had to go in jeans on and all. I think she did that twice actually. Thank heavens she can swim now!

And, I love those Scotcharoos!

I hope you have a great trip!!!
