The Red Box

Our family frequently visits our local Red Box where you can rent a newly released movie for $1 right out of a vending machine. I think this is just an amazing invention, and a heck of a deal!
That is unless you have a little girl named, Alyssa. Here's the story.

Last weekend, we rented a movie. Not even a good movie. It was disturbing and depressing and wasn't even worth a $1 in my mind. Robert and the girls were running out to do errands the next morning after watching this movie, and they were supposed to drop the movie back at the Red Box. This is where things went bad.
Robert tells me he must have left the disc on the roof of the van when he was getting the girls into their seats and forgot about it. Later in that evening, Robert was mowing the grass, and our neighbor asked if we had dropped the movie. Robert thanked him for finding it, and then handed the movie to Alyssa and asked her to put it inside the van until he was done mowing the grass. (BIG MISTAKE!)
Robert continues mowing the grass, and of course, forgets anything about the movie when he is done. A whole week goes by and just last night Robert realizes that we have been paying $1 everyday this week for this stupid movie that was never returned. So he is looking around for it, and then remembers that he gave it to Alyssa to put in the van that day.
Our conversation then went as follows:

Robert: Alyssa, remember when I gave you that Red Box movie to put in the van?
Alyssa: Yes.
Robert: Where did you put it? I can't find it.
Alyssa: Ummmm.....I don't know?
Robert: Alyssa....you do to know. Where did you put it?
Alyssa: Maybe someone threw it in the garbage?
Robert: Did you throw it in the garbage?
Alyssa: No.
Shana: Alyssa, it is really important that you tell us where you put that movie. It isn't ours, and we have to pay for it until we return it. If we don't return it, we get in trouble.
Alyssa: Ummm...okay. I buried it.
Shana: Buried it where?
Alyssa: Over there in that dirt. (pointing to our neighbors yard that just was finished getting fresh sod on it the day before)
Shana: You buried it in their yard??
Alyssa: Yes.
Shana: Are you serious??
Alyssa: Yes.
Shana: You can't bury things in their yard Alyssa. We needed to return that movie. What were you thinking?
Alyssa: Momma...it was in the case. The disc was safe. (like that makes it all better)
Robert: Show me where you buried it.
Robert and Alyssa walk over to their yard and start to look around. Robert lifts up a piece or two of sod to look under it. He is obviously annoyed.
They come back and Robert is now on the phone with Red Box and asking some lady, "What happens if my daughter buried one of your movies in the neighbors yard and we can't return it?" I can hear her laughing through the phone. At the end of his phone conversation, this deal of a crappy $1 movie, now is costing us $25 to buy!
In the end, we had to kind of laugh about it. I mean, what the heck was going through that child's mind when she decided to do that?

Oh no! She's a character, that one. Maybe she was just in the mood for a treasure hunt?

Happy birthday to Robert! xoxo to all of you.

Michael said to look on the bright side when that area of the sod dies you will be able to find the movie...(but...you may have to buy a new piece of sod for the neighbors) ...This story brightened our day!
One time Michael had a movie that Jessica did not like and did not think it should be in our movie collection so she decided it needed to go out the window of the moving car!! That took care of that movie...
Continue to share...
Please also give Robert a hug for us!!! the girls too..

hahaha, I'm sure this was frustrating, but I was laughing so hard! I re-read it to Ben and we laughed together! So funny! That is a great story!
